My New Year Tradition: An Easy and Delicious Dessert

My mother's new year tradition: Cream of Wheat and Cheese PuddingWhat is your New Year Tradition? Do you cook something special to celebrate the new year?As the New Year approaches, we were busy today preparing for our lunch rush, I noticed my staff exchanging bags and handfuls of lentils. I had to ask what it was all about. I was told that in Mexico, for the new year, a person should wear something yellow when the clock strikes midnight to bring them luck in the new year. They also told me to put lentils in my pocket, a tradition to bring money in the new year. Because I love to travel, another member of my staff told me that I should pull a large suitcase all around my house at midnight. As I was discussing these rituals with the staff, one of my customers, who was listening in, said that if I eat 12 grapes at midnight, each one representing a wish for every month in the year, the wishes would come true.

Our New Year Tradition

My family had their own new year tradition.  My mom would always cook something white for the New Year–milk pudding –and make us eat it on New Year’s eve to ward off sorrow for the coming year.Well, just in case any of these work, I just bought bright yellow PJs, I am going to fill my pocket with lentil, and I have suite case ready by the door. I am going to make this white dessert that, to my pleasure, my daughter loves, while simultaneously eating 12 grapes.I hope my daughter will be making this dessert on New Year Eves to her own kids, many many years from now, telling them about their crazy grandmother who ran around the neighborhood New Year Eve in yellow pajamas, freezing dragging a suitcase in her hand.If you see someone wearing a yellow PJ, pulling a suitcase and running in your neighborhood at midnight, don’t call the police, it is just me.May this simple white dessert bring you happiness in this coming year.Cream of Wheat and Cheese Puddingserves 43 .cups of water1  .cup sugar1  .cup regular cream of wheat6 . sticks plain string cheese1/4 teaspoon orange blossom waterPlace the water and sugar in small pan and bring to a boil. Our new year tradition: Simple ingredientsTurn the heat down and start to add the cream of wheat slowly and stir continuously.  Make sure that the cream of wheat is well blended and no lumps.Turn the heat down.
