Brain and Heart Healthy Spread, Mohammara
This spread is particular to Aleppo, Syria where piquant tastes are appreciated. I use this spread on any dish that call for ketchup. You can mix it with hommous and make very intriguing spread. Serve with toasted pita chips in your next football party.We know walnuts are good for the brain and the heart, chili good for joint, pomegranate for the kidney, olive oil for everything. Which make this spread the appetizer for the body and the soul.Mohammaramake 4 cups1 medium onion, coarsely chopped1 large red bell pepper, seeds removed and coarsely chopped1 cup walnuts4 slices couple days old white bread1/4 cup pomegranate molasses1/4 cup Harrisa, red pepper spread *1/4 cup olive oil1 tablespoon freshly ground coriander1 tablespoon freshly ground cumin-Place the onion, the pepper, the walnut and the white bread in a food processor and process, using the on and the off bottom, until you have coarse mixture.-Add the rest of the rest of the ingredients and process for extra round. You should have smooth spread with beautiful red color.*Harrisa: A red hot pepper paste. You can find it at specialty stores. If you can not find it, you can use 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper and 1 teaspoon tomato paste.
